Benjamin Laney

Engineer

Benjamin Laney is an Engineer on the CTO R&D Engineering team focused right now on Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) and related technologies. Ben is the lead developer of Generative AI Frameworks and Tools at American Express. During his time at American Express, he has focused on Generative AI enablement for business units and the establishment of engineering best practices. On the engineering front, he is the key developer and maintainer of both the inner and open source ConnectChain libraries among other foundational GenAI tools and frameworks. On the research front, he has been actively delving into cutting-edge GenAI technologies and contributing code examples utilizing internal libraries/tools. Before joining American Express, Ben spent many years designing and implementing high-performance, distributed investment systems, conducting quantitative R&D and as an engineer working on enterprise data science platforms engineering while based in Europe. Outside of work, he enjoys animals of all varieties, is an active conservationist, spending time outdoors and traveling.
