Michael J. Bailey is a Google Developer Expert (Android) and a Distinguished Engineer on the Mobile team at American Express, where he leads technical strategy for the company's flagship consumer mobile apps and underlying platforms.
He joined American Express in 2008 as a Lead Technical Architect in Amex Labs and transitioned to mobile engineering in 2009. Michael helped build the company's first mobile apps, including the first Android app, and has contributed to nearly every major mobile initiative since.
Michael leads engineering strategy for a shared mobile platform powering multiple products, including work that enabled the Travel app and the relaunch of the Resy Android app. His contributions span platform architecture, developer experience, and reliability engineering, with a focus on scaling shared foundations across teams.
He is known for advancing engineering practices at scale and leads cross-company technical communities such as the JVM guild, while remaining hands-on with code and architecture.
Michael holds a BS in Computer Science from Harvey Mudd College and an MS in Computer Science from the University of Southern California.
