Andras Ferenczi

Principal Engineer

Andras leads the Technology R&D Engineering team at American Express. He and his team are focused on building Generative AI core enablement frameworks, experimenting with autonomous agents, conducting Quantum Computing research, and evaluating Quantum-Safe cryptographic products. A prolific inventor, Andras holds 46 granted patents and has been recognized with multiple awards, including the 2024 American Express Inventor of the Year Award, and the company’s Innovation Award, the 2021 Innovation Challenge, and the 2007 Technology Excellence Award.

Andras earned a PhD program in Computers and Information Systems at the University of Craiova and holds a graduate degree in Electrical Engineering with a major in Electronics and Telecommunications from Universitatea Politehnica Timișoara. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, skiing, and hiking. Among his greatest achievements are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (2012) and, more recently, completing the Inca Trail in Peru in 2024.
